Harryhausen style ‘Galactic Raiders’ – Kickstarter

January 17, 2013

I sometimes am puzzled about these crowdfunding sites. Some projects get lucky & score big and others do not get much attention. Maybe it has to do with slickified video pitches, or perhaps the ‘project’ or whatever, strikes the public’s fickled tastes. You know, ‘flavor of the moment’.

Someone messaged me about this Kickstarter project. Those of us in the hardcore underground of Harryhausen’esque, have know about this ongoing stop motion project, Galactic Raiders. Person behind it is Larry Arpin. Amazing what he & micro-small crew are able to do with extreme minimal budget. Some of you may have seen teaser clips of Galactic Raiders, well Larry in his low key simple non-salesmen manner, reveals more scenes & gives you overview about production. Larry is in the Los Angeles area, the MECCA of tinsel town entertainment insanity and I’m surprised investors not taking notice of Galactic Raiders.

This is ol’ school retro B-movie style pure fun & escapism that captures the Ray Harryhausen flavor. It is not meant to compete with the homogenized & formulaic CGI excess out there. I like the animation style. Some of the creatures have a more frenetic & nervous movement to them … most surreal cool to me! The project completion budget could be ambitious but in ‘Hollywood’ terms, it is not that much compared to what ’suits’ spend. So, if you have the motivation, consider ’spreading the word’ about ‘Galactic Raiders’ via your own blog, sites, your facebook, etc..

I would give him money if I had any. we are in really bad shape right now getting food from the Foodbank, can’t pay the bills. Probably more than you need to know but just so you understand. I agree with you that he deserves more attention.
